The City of Kwinana’s Kwinana Adventure Park has taken out the Park of the Year Award, Playspace Award (>$0.5M) and Best Community Program at the 2017 Parks and Leisure Australia (PLA) WA Awards of Excellence.

The PLA Awards of Excellence showcase the excellent work of parks and leisure professionals who deliver enormous benefit to our communities, recognising outstanding performance by both organisations and individuals contributing to the sector.

The $5.2 million Kwinana Adventure Park was designed by Josh Byrne & Associates (JBA) and Jeavons Landscape Architects, and was built by Environmental Industries. JBA worked closely with City of Kwinana staff to deliver the park with the existing natural environment in mind, combining elements of nature, water and earth to create an experience that is unique and inspiring.

The City of Kwinana’s vision for the Kwinana Adventure Park was to create an asset for the community which would provide innovative and imaginative play opportunities for all abilities and age groups, carefully designed and planned to encourage imagination and learning in a safe and secure area. The park is not only for the children of Kwinana and their carers, but for the wider community. Other design objectives determined by the City were that the park was to celebrate the sense of place and local biodiversity of Kwinana and foster community spirit.

The opening of the Park saw the largest crowd to ever attend the City of Kwinana’s town center with estimates well over 10,000 people. The Park is helping to sustain the local economy by drawing visitors to Kwinana. It’s location within the City Centre means that a large number of businesses nearby are benefiting from the increase in visitor numbers.
