Josh Byrne & Associates (JBA) has been working with engineering firm WBM BMT and the Morton Bay Regional Council to produce landscape concept drawings for the redevelopment of the district level Bluebell Park in Caboolture, Queensland.
The design of this park compliments WBM BMT’s regional work on flood modeling and flood mitigation and looks to redefine the way flood waters are managed within recreational spaces. Retention of stormwater during non-peak events through the use of naturalised water treatment trains within the park allows for increased nutrient stripping prior to stormwater entering the Morton Bay and the creation of habitat for local flora and fauna.
JBA has considered best practice Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD) principles throughout the design along with maximising educational opportunities, activation and inclusiveness in the park.
Our experience in WSUD has allowed us to integrate the benefits of stormwater treatment within a highly usable public space for all ages. Once developed, the community will enjoy public amenities including boardwalks and pathway networks that integrate with the wetlands, exercise equipment, BMX tracks, play spaces, food forests and the potential for community gardens.
As part of the design process, JBA met on site with WBM BMT and Council staff to ensure a holistic design was considered for this district level park which will move into the detailed design phase soon.
