JBA’s Mark Taylor (pictured right) and Engineering Consultants Australia’s (ECA) Marc Greco (pictured left) have been invited to co-present on the anticipated impacts of electric vehicles on electrical networks and infrastructure design at the Fremantle Chamber of Commerce Business After Work Series.
The invite follows recent seminars on the topic for Engineers Australia and for Western Power. In both cases question time extended for much longer than the presentations themselves. The audience was interested in the technical subjects around peak load impacts and strategies, but also had many questions about policy settings and strategies to encourage electric vehicles.
JBA developed a study on electric vehicle charging infrastructure for the Alkimos Beach estate being developed by LendLease and Landcorp in Perth’s coastal north. ECA provided power engineering support and review of the study.
The study set out to provide a sense of how the developers could show leadership and encourage electric vehicle uptake, given the benefits identified, as well as providing credible forecasting so that the electrical infrastructure design can account for what is expected from electric vehicles.
JBA is now looking for support to develop a more generic set of guidelines so that Australian developers have a starting point for understanding electric vehicles and the likely impacts on their projects.
The Electric Vehicles, Sustainability & Greener Cities presentation is happening as part of the Fremantle Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours Series and it will occur on Thursday the 5th of May from 5:30pm through to 7:00pm.
