Walmanyjun Cable Beach Foreshore Redevelopment

The redevelopment of one of Australia’s most culturally significant internationally recognised foreshore destinations.

Cable Beach, traditionally known as Walmanyjun by Yawuru People, is a world famous 22km stretch of coastline internationally recognised for its white sands, turquois water and ocean sunsets.

Located in the Shire of Broome in the West Australian Kimberley region; Cable Beach, the Broome town site and surrounding areas are undergoing redevelopment to service increasing tourist and resident population, to protect against environmental impacts and further highlight the cultural importance of the area.

The Cable Beach Foreshore Redevelopment will transform the culturally and environmentally significant foreshore and adjacent public realm into a precinct that reinforces the mythos of the beach as a world best.

JBA was engaged as the landscape architect to take the project from masterplan through design development and into detailed documentation ready for construction tender. JBA will be working alongside locally based civil engineers ACOR Consultants (ACOR) and coastal engineers Seashore Engineering.

Our approach places emphasis on working closely with the Shire, Yawuru, and wider community and stakeholders to realise opportunities and arrive at considered and respectful design responses.

The project is expected to catalyse commercial investment opportunities in prime adjacent land holdings, improve amenities for significant events and visitor activation in Broome’s shoulder seasons, protect the environmental integrity of the natural form and highlight the cultural connectivity.
