City of South Perth Urban Greening Strategy 2025-2050

The City of South Perth Urban Greening Strategy provides a long-term framework for protecting, enhancing and managing the City's green spaces and ecological systems. Moving beyond a traditional focus on tree canopy alone, it responds to climate change, biodiversity loss, urban development, community wellbeing and the need for equitable investment. The Strategy guides urban greening decisions through to 2050 and provides the basis for coordinated implementation, budgeting and performance reporting.

JBA led the Strategy’s development, working with the City and its engagement consultant to integrate technical evidence, organisational knowledge and community priorities. We reviewed existing policy, environmental data and greening practices, facilitated cross-organisational workshops, and analysed findings from the City’s community engagement. JBA translated this evidence into a clear vision, guiding principles and four integrated pillars supported by measurable goals, priorities and performance indicators. This created a practical framework to guide decision-making and investment through to 2050. JBA is now supporting delivery through a prioritised four-year Implementation Plan and practical community guidance.

The adopted Strategy gives the City an evidence-based framework for coordinating urban greening decisions, directing investment and measuring progress over the next 25 years. It connects strategic direction with practical implementation, annual budgeting, asset management and ongoing reporting. The project demonstrates how complex technical, operational and community considerations can be synthesised into an accessible local government strategy and converted into prioritised, deliverable actions.
